Now available in an easy graphical user interface!
With Custom Access Roles you can fine-tune what is seen by users with a particular role. You may find this especially beneficial in customizing the access for your lay leaders with the OrgLeadersOnly role. As examples, you can configure settings for your lay leaders to:
Control whether their home page is the dashboard or their own profile
Hide the Ministry tab when they view others’ profiles
Remove the Delete Meeting button
Hide the organization Settings tab
These role-based custom access settings have been available for some time, but now we have provided a graphical interface for convenient control.
You know the adage “Less is More” and its companion “You can have too much of a good thing.” Those words of wisdom are certainly true when it comes to finance roles in TouchPoint. You can be robbed of your rights by having too many finance roles.
No doubt you know that OrgLeadersOnly is a limiting role. It actually restricts the rights of the user who has that role. But there are other limiting roles in TouchPoint, particularly within the Financial category. In the image below, the three roles to the right are all potentially limiting. They can reduce the rights of someone who has the Finance (or FinanceAdmin) role.
The Roles in the Financial Category
You can read about the FinanceViewOnly and FinanceDataEntry roles in this alphabetized list of roles. But since the name of the FundManager role can cause confusion, I need to include a warning. Contrary to what its name may lead you to think, this role does not give the ability to manage your church’s list of funds. Instead, it is used with a special feature (Fund-Based Finance Roles), to restrict a user’s rights to only the fund or funds specified by means of other roles. Few churches have need for this special feature, so for the vast majority of you, just realize that this is another limiting role that can decrease your rights.
One final note: Although the Finance and FinanceAdmin roles do not conflict, it is never necessary to have both. If you have FinanceAdmin, you have all the rights given by the Finance role, plus additional rights. If you have both the Finance and Admin roles, the FinanceAdmin role will add nothing to the rights you already have. So simply choose which one of these two roles is appropriate. You will need the FinanceAdmin role if (1) you do not have the Admin role, and (2) you need to open bundles that have been closed or you need the ability to give someone else the Finance role.

We have recently added a new setting that will prevent a My Data user from seeing the specific Badge displaying his Member Status as well as the Member Status that normally displays in the list of Family Members.
See the image below for the places a My Data user would normally see the Member Status. These will be removed if you add the Setting named HideMyDataMemberBadge = true.
This new Setting goes hand-in-hand with another Setting that will hide the Profile tab for a My Data user. You would probably want to also use that Setting in conjunction with this new Setting. It is named HideMemberStatusFromMyData = true.
Thank you to our friends at Cokesbury UMC in Knoxville, TN for sponsoring this new Setting.

This new role is designed for staff who need to view summary reports for contributions, but not perform data entry or view contribution data for any individuals. You assign this role – FinanceViewOnly – without the Finance role as that will override the ViewOnly role. This will simplify the view for your church staff members that do not need (or want) all the other options that are available for someone with the normal Finance role. With this role, they will just see those reports. This will also allow you to give this role to staff members who previously have not been able to access financial reports because it was not appropriate for them to have full finance capabilities.
This is perfect for a minister that needs to see the income/contributions for various funds but does not need to see individual contributions.
This is the list of reports this user will see. These are under Administration in the main menu.
Read more…about the roles related to Finance/Contributions.
If you have ever wanted run a report for people in a specific Organization, or a Tag, or Search Builder results and see of all those that are TouchPoint users and see their roles, then you will be very happy about this new report.
This is one of those “Recipes” we’ve told you about before. That means that we wrote the SQL code for you and all you need to do is copy and paste it into your database. Of course this must be done by the System Admin user. However, once it is created and added to the blue Toolbar, any user with Edit role can run the report.
